How long you can pause each meal kit

Sunbasket pauses for up to 12 weeks, Purple Carrot for 6, 8 or 10 and CookUnity for up to 8. Most other services call a break skipping weeks, and two treat a pause as cancelling with a way back.

A real pause, with an end date

Sunbasket, Purple Carrot and CookUnity let you choose a pause length. When it ends, deliveries start again on their own, so put the restart date in your calendar: the first box after a pause ships and is charged like any other.

Breaks made of skipped weeks

At Dinnerly you can schedule skips up to eight weeks ahead, and at Green Chef and Gobble up to four. HelloFresh and EveryPlate describe a pause as skipping the weeks you want off, and Blue Apron lets you skip as many orders as you like. Green Chef and Daily Harvest can also deliver every other week or monthly, and Blue Apron’s Subscribe & Save every two, three or four weeks, which may suit you better than a long string of skips.

A pause that is really a cancellation

Home Chef calls cancelling “pausing”: choose a restart date to come back on that day, or none to stay stopped. Factor treats deactivating your plan as an open-ended pause that you end by reactivating. Credits and promotions can be lost when a plan is cancelled; Green Chef and CookUnity say so on their own pages.

Before a break

Every change must be made before the cutoff for the next box, or that box still ships. The skip, pause or cancel planner gives each service’s rule and steps, and makes a weekly reminder for your calendar.
