You want fresh single meals with about a minute of prep that cook themselves in about 20 minutes, and you have, or will buy, Tovala’s Smart Oven and a 2.4 GHz WiFi network to run it.

Look elsewhere if

You don’t want another appliance on the counter (Factor sends cooked meals to heat in a microwave), want to order once with no subscription (Clean Eatz Kitchen or Mom’s Meals), or have no WiFi at home: without it the oven can’t scan its meals.

Most meals are $13.99, plus $10.99 shipping a delivery, and they cook only in Tovala’s Smart Oven: $299 at list price, or $69 if you agree to order meals 6 times in 6 months, and until that sixth order you can skip weeks but not pause or cancel in the app. Your cutoff is 6 PM Central on the Wednesday the week before delivery; if you haven’t picked meals by then, Tovala picks them and charges your card.

How much Tovala costs

The oven. Tovala says its meals must be cooked in its Smart Oven: an ordinary convection oven can cook them, it says, but it gives no instructions for one and does not promise the result. The oven is $299 at list price, with no commitment, so the oven and one order of its smallest plan, 4 meals at $66.95 with shipping, come to $365.95 before tax. On its offer the oven is $69 if you order meals 6 times in 6 months, and the oven with those six orders of the smallest plan comes to $470.70 before tax. Within 100 days you can return the oven for a full refund, and Tovala cancels the meal plan.

Tovala’s offer is on the oven, not the meals: $69 instead of $299, or $119 instead of $349 for the Pro, when you agree to order meals 6 times in 6 months. Cancel before the sixth order and you pay the difference to the oven’s full price, unless you return the oven within its 100-day trial; the meal prices above are its standard prices. Skip, pause or cancel Tovala

Change, skip or pause by 6 PM Central on the Wednesday the week before delivery. Tovala writes 6 p.m. CT and says the deadline can move around holidays. If you haven’t picked meals by then, it picks them for you and charges your card. Why some times are approximate.

To skip or change a box:

  1. In the Tovala app, open the Order tab and choose the week you want to skip.
  2. At the bottom of that week’s menu, choose Skip/Adjust, then Skip Delivery.
  3. Do it by 6 PM Central on the Wednesday the week before. You can skip up to 5 weeks ahead, in the app or at my.tovala.com.

To cancel:

  1. In the Tovala app, open Settings, then Meal Plan, then Delivery Settings.
  2. Choose Cancel, by 6 PM Central on the Wednesday the week before your next delivery; after that, the next week’s meals still ship.
