Choose BistroMD if

You want a dietitian-planned week of single meals for weight loss, breakfasts too if you like, on a program such as Diabetic, Heart Healthy or Gluten Free, kept in the freezer.

Look elsewhere if

You want fewer than ten meals at a time (CookUnity and Tempo start at four), to order once with no subscription (Clean Eatz Kitchen or Mom’s Meals), delivery to Alaska or Hawaii (Trifecta), or one order for several people.

Check before you order

BistroMD prices its four program sizes, from 10 lunches and dinners at $149.90 to 20 meals with breakfasts at $219.80, and adds $19.95 shipping. Your cutoff is your own: 11:59 PM Eastern on the day your account shows, typically a few days before delivery, and a change by phone or email must reach BistroMD 24 hours before that. Eating five of its meals a week? It suggests ordering 10 every other week and freezing the rest.

How much BistroMD costs

How it arrives
Frozen, on dry ice in an insulated box, by FedEx: up to 6 business days on the road, and the box is left at your door. On BistroMD’s site: How it works and Where do you deliver? and Do I need to be home to receive my meals?
How long it keeps

Recycling the box
The box and meal sleeves go in paper recycling, and the trays and bags with clean plastics once the dry ice is gone; the liner is paper (curbside), recycled denim (textile recycling) or bubble wrap (store drop-off). On BistroMD’s site: Is your packaging recyclable?
Something missing or damaged
Ask its customer service for a refund of wrong or damaged meals; a problem caused by shipping is FedEx’s to refund, it says, and it takes no food back and gives no refund for taste. On BistroMD’s site: Terms & Conditions and Shipping & Deliveries questions
