Breakfast and lunch delivery: which services sell more than dinner

Most meal delivery services are built around dinner, but 20 of the 23 compared here also sell breakfast or lunch. Splendid Spoon’s soups, bowls and smoothies are sold for any meal of the day. Factor sells breakfasts such as pancakes and egg bites as add-ons to its weekly delivery, and its meals for lunch as well as dinner; Tempo has Breakfast and Morning Bites sections on its menu, and sells its meals for lunch too; Trifecta has breakfasts such as egg scrambles and egg bites on some plans, and its lunches and dinners are the same meals; Mom’s Meals counts breakfast entrées among the 10, 14 or 21 meals of an order, in any mix with its lunches and dinners; BistroMD’s Full Program adds 5 or 7 breakfasts to a week of lunches and dinners, which it treats as interchangeable. Sunbasket has Breakfast and Lunch aisles on its menu, HelloFresh sells breakfasts and quick lunches in its shop of extras, Green Chef sells breakfast items in its shop and 10-minute lunches on its menu, Purple Carrot has Breakfast and Lunch aisles in its shop, Marley Spoon, Home Chef, Gobble and Dinnerly have breakfast choices too, Tovala’s weekly menu has breakfast and lunch options beside its dinners, Hungryroot puts breakfasts and lunches in the same weekly cart as dinners, and CookUnity has a Breakfast category in some ZIP codes. For children, Nurture Life says its menu covers breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack time, with Lunchkins served cold for lunch, and Little Spoon sells its Plates for any meal and its Lunchers for packed lunches. Extras on a dinner plan

At Factor, Tempo, HelloFresh, Green Chef, Gobble and Dinnerly, breakfast is an extra: Factor calls its breakfasts add-ons to the weekly delivery, Tempo lists them among the extras below its meals, HelloFresh and Green Chef sell theirs in a shop of extras, HelloFresh Market and Green Market, where HelloFresh also sells quick lunches, Gobble in its weekly shop beside prepared meals, salads and soups, and Dinnerly in its Market. An extra adds to the week’s bill, so count it when you compare prices; the prices in the table are for three dinners for two, before any extras. The cost calculator takes your cart’s food total, extras included.

Meals for any time of day

Splendid Spoon’s menu is not split by meal: its soups, bowls and smoothies are sold for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and you choose a box by the number of items, 6, 12 or 18 at sign-up. Factor sells its prepared meals, two minutes in the microwave, for lunch as well as dinner, and says they keep for 7 days in the fridge, so one box can cover a working week of lunches. Tempo sells its meals, heated in about two minutes, for lunch too; each keeps 2 to 12 days, by the use-by date on its label.

A kit for breakfast

Marley Spoon and Home Chef sell breakfasts you cook or heat at home: Marley Spoon’s menu includes recipes such as a sheet-pan breakfast hash, and Home Chef’s breakfast section has burritos and waffle sandwiches. Sunbasket’s Breakfast aisle is groceries for the morning, such as eggs, oatmeal and coffee, beside ready-made quiches and breakfast burritos.

Desserts and snacks

Eleven services also sell something sweet to add to the box. Like a breakfast, a dessert is an extra that adds to the week’s bill, and the prices in the table above leave it out.
